Nick,

Aware of and following! Every other local band Myspace page I hit has a note suggesting they submit a song. And I think the name "pdxnotpop" was subconsciously a twist on PDX Pop Now. Homage, perhaps.

Thanks for the note, and the offer. I might just take you up on that, even if its just to chat about what bands we are psyched about. #pdxnotpop started as me trying to find out what was going on in Portland under the radar, and damn! there's a lot! Helluva scene, and damn friendly too.

I'd write more, but must admit I'm a little scattered. More later, no doubt.

Hey Dave -

You should check out a non-profit that I volunteer for called PDX Pop Now! You may or may not be familiar, but we do a lot to support the music community in Portland. We put on a free three day all-ages music festival in the middle of the summer, release a two disc compilation of local music, and put on outreach events with the city and local schools. I act as the fundraising and sponsorship coordinator, but let me know if you have any questions or would like any info. Maybe something we do can assist in your #pdxnotpop project event though we're called pdx pop now! ha! for us - pop - is anything that is relevant and happening right now in the city regardless of whether it's mainstream. we also strive to incorporate as many genres as possible. good luck on your thesis proposal!
